A rare and fab find. A Victorian ear desk standish or smoking set likely used to house and hold cigars.
Made of brass and real steer or ram' horn, the set is almost sculptural as it is beautiful and functional.

The top has a central gimbal oil lamp/table lighter which still has liquid in it. The spherical cut glass and brass structure in the center serves as a gimbal mounted cigar table lighter or oil lamp. The gimbal mechanism ensures the flame reservoir remains completely upright even when the horn is lifted or moved.

The rectangular metal sleeve bracket fixed to the brass structure is designed to hold a matchbox upright for easy striking.

The low shallow brass dish with a glass insert is a cigar ashtray or pen tray.
The two brass banded glass vessels are multi functional pieces, serving to hold cigars, match holders, or inkwells if that is how you choose to use the piece.

This was considered a decorative luxury set in the late 19th and early 20th century. It is a statement piece for gentlemen's libraries, study desks or smoking room.

We think it is a beautiful decorative object for today.
