ENTRYWAY COLLECTION - Grand Tour Style
A striking late 19th C Italian Renaissance Revival carved walnut throne or hall chair featuring hand-carved putti, an openwork floral crest, barley twist turnings, and an intricately hand-caned back. Richly carved from top to bottom, it captures the bold craftsmanship that define Italian Renaissance Revival furniture. The dramatic crown crest, winged putti, scrolling foliate carving, and matching carved front stretcher create a commanding presence, while the warm walnut patina highlights the depth of the carving. Equally at home in an entryway, library, study, or as a distinctive accent chair, this exceptional late 19th-century Italian chair is ready for your home.
JUNE’S THOUGHTS
This is one of those chairs that immediately gives a room a point of view. I love the way the carving adds depth and character, while the cane and openwork keep it visually light. It works beautifully with darker woods, but it’s equally compelling as contrast in a cleaner space where you want one piece to carry the architecture. I would style it simply— a small side table with some books, and one object with substance—and it becomes a quiet anchor that feels considered and collected (see last photo).
