Pair of 19th-Century French Chased Gilt Bronze Candlesticks, France, Restoration period (circa 1815–1830). Each candlestick is formed with a tall, fluted shaft inspired by classical columnar models, enriched with finely chased bronze decoration and centered by a wide ornamental collar worked with dense floral and geometric punchwork. The stepped drip pans are fitted with original bobèches, above cylindrical candle cups decorated with repeating guilloché and zigzag motifs. The broad circular bases are concentrically molded and finely textured, providing both visual weight and stability.
Cast, turned, and hand-chased in gilt bronze, likely retaining original mercury fire-gilding, with a warm matte-gold surface and areas of gentle wear consistent with age and use. Subtle patination and minor rubbing are present, enhancing the depth of the decoration without detracting from the overall harmony. A well-matched and elegant pair, characteristic of French decorative bronze work from the Restoration period and well suited to classical or transitional interiors.
