An important French gilt bronze desk clock and aneroid barometer, mid-19th century or later, the movement stamped “Pons / Médaille d’Or,” referring to the celebrated French horologist Honoré Pons and his 1827 gold-medal distinction. The signed Pons movement gives the piece greater historical and horological significance, connecting it to one of the key figures in 19th-century French clockmaking and the development of high-quality Paris-type movements. The architectural gilt bronze case is cast in the neoclassical taste, with paired fluted columns, acanthus ornament, pinecone finials, beaded borders, rosette molding, a scrolled carrying handle, and a rectangular plinth raised on bun feet.
