This decorative bowl exemplifies the traditional Venetian glassmaking technique known as 'mezza filigrana,' where colored glass canes are twisted and fused to create intricate ribbon patterns. The inclusions of a millefiori center - featuring tiny glass flowers - demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship associated with Murano glass production from the mid-to-late 20th century. Such pieces were often created as decorative centerpieces for elegant dining tables and display cabinet.
I picked this glass for the mastery of the glassmakers and for the unique amethyst/purple color.
