Crafted in Portuguese 19k yellow gold, the beautiful medallion features bright red enamel. The miniature cross is inspired by the Order of Christ - the successor to the Knights Templar in Portugal. The pendant combines several layers of symbolism: Red enameled Cross of Christ - faith, sacrifice, and Portugal's maritime history and the Portuguese Coat of Arms at the center - representing the Kingdom (and later Nation) of Portugal. The emblem once appeared on the sails of the ships that explored the world's oceans during the Age of Discovery. For centuries, this symbol represented faith, courage, exploration, and national price.

The charm is in good condition and was lightly cleaned and polished. Slight loss to the white enamel at the center.
The piece was acquired on a recent trip to Portugal, one of Europe's most exciting destinations for discovering exceptional antique and vintage jewelry. Metal & Hallmark: 19k yellow gold. The charm is stamped with the Portuguese Tiger .800 fineness mark for 19.2k gold and dates to between 1888 and 1937.
