On offer is a stunning pair of European antique porcelain portrait vases, likely dating to the late Victorian or Art Nouveau era (circa 1890–1910). Each of the matching vases displays a meticulously detailed, hand-painted bust portrait of a romanticized woman with flowing, wavy hair, styled in a classical or neoclassical manner.
The oval portraits are framed by lush, realistic green fern fronds interwoven with small dark-red floral accents. The body features a soft, matte celadon gradient backdrop, accented by bold, solid black borders around the top rim and bottom base.
Each of the vases’ undersides reveals specific production marks. The Red Number "17”, written by hand over the glaze, this is typically a decorator’s or gilder's mark used to identify the specific workshop artist responsible for the hand-painted details. The Stenciled Number "6120/100" is a factory inventory shape and size number. The 6120 represents the specific mold design of the blank vase, while the 100 signifies the size class or series run.
The clean white porcelain visible on the unglazed foot ring, combined with the font of the numerals and the style of the romanticized female portraits, strongly indicates Austrian, Bohemian, or German production (such as Royal Vienna style or Carlsbad-region factories).
The view from the top shows the interior constriction, featuring separate porcelain bulbs or weighted elements built into the bases. This unique structural design was engineered to lower the center of gravity, preventing top-heavy flower arrangements from tipping over.
Signature/Maker’s mark: Nonexistent.
