Early 19th century tall grandfather clock from Sweden, long case crafted in pine retaining its original hand painted finish. The painted surface has been gently scraped and distressed through years of use, leaving a soft aged patina. While the clock may once have shown stronger red tones, the softened finish now presents with a warm tangerine look, with residual painted silhouettes of red flowers faintly visible throughout.
Delicate filigree work surrounds the clock face, and the upper medallion reads Christian Ipsen No. 262 and is topped by an etched crown.
While the pine longcase has been restored and is stable, the original clockworks do not function. Many buyers choose to install a battery operated movement upon arrival. Any original clockworks we do have will be included with shipment.
All scratches, cracks, age-related separation (seen at corners, seams where wood comes together, etc.) and surface wear are reflective of age and do not impact function.
When originally made, a clock master, cabinet maker, and professional painter would have been commissioned in the making of this grandfather clock. A beautiful piece of history with timeless style and strong decorative presence.
