A collection of six beautiful late 19th century horn and bone Victorian carpet balls. Each ball displays alternating panels of creamy bone and deep ebony-black horn. Made with natural materials, the balls possess a deep and rich patina with subtle translucency and a lustrous look. The hand applied tiles feature natural color variations.
During the late 19th century carpet bowling became a hugely popular indoor parlor game in Scotland and England. While most sets were made of heavy painted ceramic or porcelain, luxury sets were handcrafted using tessellated horn and bone pieced together over a solid core. Such luxury sets became status symbols in Victorian England.
Today genuine horn and bone carpet balls still exude luxury and sophistication. They are highly prized by antique collectors and interior designers who use them as modern.decorative accents in bowls, on bookshelves, and placed on stands.
