An exceptional antique French clock garniture set dating from circa 1840–1850, beautifully made from marble, Sèvres biscuit porcelain, and ormolu bronze. This elegant 3-piece set consists of a central mantel clock and two matching candlesticks, richly decorated with putti, floral garlands, birds, scrollwork, and finely detailed bronze mounts.
The central clock is a remarkable decorative object, combining the softness of white biscuit porcelain with the richness of gilded bronze and the solidity of marble. The marble base rests on four bronze feet and is decorated with ornate ormolu bronze details. The porcelain case is highly detailed throughout, with romantic figural decoration and floral ornamentation.
On the left side of the clock case, two finely modeled birds are surrounded by a garland of small flowers. In the center, a reclining putto is framed by floral garlands and scrolls, with his hands holding the dial. The right side continues with delicate floral decoration, giving the entire case a balanced and richly sculptural appearance.
The enamel dial features Arabic numerals and two bronze hands. It is protected by a glass door and set within a decorative surround of flowers and scrollwork. The 8-day movement has been checked and serviced by a professional clockmaker and is in working order. The clock strikes on the half and full hour and comes complete with winding key, pendulum, and bell. The movement is stamped and signed.
At the top of the clock, two playful putti form a charming romantic scene. One seated putto on the left is picking flowers, while the reclining putto on the right accepts them. Their joyful interaction, combined with the floral garlands and sculpted porcelain details, gives the clock a graceful and lively character. The bottom of the clock bears the Sèvres mark and the letter B.
The two matching candlesticks are equally decorative. Each candlestick shows two putti around a thick branch: one seated at the base and the other climbing the branch while both figures hold onto it. The branch rises upward and ends in a beautiful bronze candleholder. Each candlestick stands on a marble base and rests on four bronze feet, matching the materials and decorative richness of the central clock.
This antique French clock set is a rare and highly decorative garniture, ideal for a mantel, console, salon, library, or formal interior. The combination of white Sèvres biscuit porcelain, marble, and ormolu bronze creates a refined and luxurious appearance, while the putti and floral motifs give the set warmth, charm, and romantic French character.
