This vintage bamboo headboard dates to the 1970s and features an elegant geometric fretwork design crafted entirely from natural bamboo and reed made with traditional fitted bamboo joinery (there are no screws or glue). With its warm honey-toned finish, airy construction, and architectural silhouette, it brings texture and character to a bedroom while maintaining a light and relaxed presence.
The design incorporates a series of decorative openwork panels featuring diamond, fan, and lattice-inspired motifs framed by bamboo poles and capped with a gently arched crest rail. Measuring 72 inches wide, the headboard offers versatility for a variety of bed configurations and can also serve as a striking decorative wall element. I personally love it for a queen-size bed, where it extends a few inches beyond the mattress on each side, though it is equally well suited to a California king without the overhang. Many bamboo headboards are fairly simple in design, but this example feels more refined and architectural, with subtle Chinoiserie influences and the relaxed sophistication often associated with Palm Beach, Palm Springs and coastal interiors.
The lightweight bamboo construction allows the intricate fretwork to remain the focal point, creating an airy look that works beautifully in Coastal, Chinoiserie, Boho Chic, and eclectic spaces. Whether paired with crisp white bedding, colorful textiles, or layered natural materials, it adds warmth, texture, and visual interest to a room.
