In the 1950s, America was inexplicably hit with tiki fever. While tanker-sized scorpion bowls and Gilligan’s Island re-runs could placate much of the obsession, Ficks Reed furniture provided homeowners with a chic way to transform their homes into beachy retreats as well. A devotee to rattan even before they began crafting furniture, Ficks Reed was founded in 1885 as a carriage and bassinet company. They engraved their status as a furniture tastemaker in the 50s as Palm Beach Regency style raged and Ficks Reed pieces stamped by Regency royalty like Dorothy Draper came into fruition.
