This chair came directly from a engineer working for the Herman Miller company in Zeeland Michigan purchased by a collector of important midcentury designs and passed to us from his estate. A black metal Eiffel tower base is attached to the bottom which looking at the shock mounts has been there since the begin when they were trying different bases and options before production started.
