This extraordinarily rare and monumentally scaled service in the retired Interlude pattern by Lenox was originally curated through the legendary Marshall Field and Company. Manufactured between 1975 and 1985, this massive cohesive collection represents the zenith of late twentieth-century American entertaining, offering a spectacular opportunity for the modern collector to anchor grand-scale gatherings with historic pedigree. The design masterfully bridges the tailored elegance of mid-century traditionalism with romantic, nature-inspired cottagecore motifs through a delicate, stylized botanical pattern of rust-red and cornflower-blue blossoms set against Lenox’s signature warm-ivory vitrified porcelain. Elevating this specific set is the striking application of precious palladium or platinum-toned parcel-gilt trim along the edges, which brilliantly catches the light and offers a sophisticated contrast to the luminous, exceptionally durable ceramic body. While standard place settings of this retired pattern appear occasionally, a collection of this sheer volume is a true rarity due to its abundance of specialized serving architecture and rare holloware. The presentation is anchored by a magnificent lidded tureen resting on an architectural serving stand, complemented by unique sculptural accents like scalloped shell bowls used for desserts or nuts. The set also features a complete, elegant tea and coffee service with a tall pouring pot, a lidded sugar bowl, and a creamer, alongside essential tabletop additions including matching salt and pepper shakers, a gravy boat with an integrated underplate, and multiple graduated oval platters. Founded in 1889 by Walter Scott Lenox in Trenton, New Jersey, the Lenox Corporation holds an unrivaled position in American decorative arts as the first American porcelain used in the White House, having since designed official state services for six U.S. Presidents. To dine from a master service of this caliber, which still bears its original Marshall Field and Company archival department store tags, is to participate in the rich lineage of American State Dinner history.
