A handsome and exceptionally well-made pair of wingback lounge chairs by Hickory Chair, featuring tall shaped backs, rolled arms, carved cabriole legs, and tailored blue-and-cream striped upholstery with an easy coastal-meets-traditional feel.
The generous proportions and supportive seating make them ideal for a living room, library, bedroom sitting area, or collected English-inspired interior. Carved shell details at the knees add a subtle Chippendale influence without feeling overly formal.
As expected from Hickory Chair, the frames are exceptionally solid and substantial. The upholstery remains clean and fully usable, while visible sun fading to exposed areas gives the pair a softened, lived-in character. Equally suited for immediate use or future custom upholstery, these are the kind of high-quality “good bones” chairs designers and collectors continue to seek out.
JUNE’S THOUGHTS
What stands out most to me about this pair is the underlying quality. Hickory Chair consistently produced furniture with excellent frames, comfortable proportions, and a level of craftsmanship that survives decades of real use — and these chairs are a very good example of that. I actually like them exactly as they are for the right interior. The softened, sun-faded blue fabric gives them an easy, lived-with character that works beautifully in relaxed traditional or coastal rooms. But I also think they are ideal “good bones” chairs for someone wanting to invest in custom upholstery later. Reupholstering a weak frame rarely makes sense; reupholstering Hickory Chair almost always does.

Hickory Chair frames are solid, sturdy, and comfortable. Upholstery is clean and fully usable with no major tears or structural issues noted. There is visible fading/sun-kissing to portions of the fabric, particularly along the tops of the arms and upper exposed areas, consistent with age and light exposure. Minor expected wear to legs and finish from use. Priced with the understanding that many buyers may eventually choose to reupholster, though the chairs still present well and have many usable years remaining in their current fabric. less
