The estate went under the … Read more These plates have been in the same Martha's Vineyard family for over a hundred years. The estate went under the hammer this past winter — the full set surfaced together, and we're offering them here as a set of four, with additional plates available individually.

They are five-well oyster plates by Carl Tielsch (CT Altwasser, Germany) in the Turkey Pattern — not a painted motif, but a molded form in which the five sculpted wells are arranged to suggest the silhouette of a turkey. The most collected oyster plate configuration of the Victorian era, made by one of Silesia's finest porcelain factories — a house routinely compared to Berlin and Meissen.

The CT backstamp on the underside of each plate is crisp. No chips, no cracks, no crazing. A century of island life left only the faintest surface wear. Each measures 8⅞" diameter × 1" high.
