Offered is a set of 4 vintage ochre green and brown "Kosmos" pattern dinner plates designed by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist (1928 … Read more Offered is a set of 4 vintage ochre green and brown "Kosmos" pattern dinner plates designed by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist (1928 - 2005).and made in Finland by Arabia. "Kosmos" was a pattern created using the "S" model forms designed by Ulla Procope in the early 1960s and was produced in this color scheme, as well as a blue one, between 1962 through 1976. Because each are hand-painted and burnished, no two pieces are exactly alike. As with all of these larger hand-painted pieces the initials of the designer (G. O. G.) are on the reverse, often followed by the initials of the painter (albeit these are dated 1966: 1-66 and 12-66).

They measure 10.125" diameter, 1.125" deep

Grönqvist spent her whole professional career at the Arabia factory (between 1951 and 1992). Common motifs and themes in her work were fruit, animal and plant designs, often stylised as in this design, and later in the Art Department where she worked from 1976 her designs evolved and became more naturalistic.
