Vernon Kilns was a prolific California pottery company (active 1931–1958) known for high-quality dinnerware and art pottery, with the Homespun pattern specifically highlighted as a popular mid-century design. Homespun, recognized by its colorful, festive plaid pattern on a cream background, was manufactured from 1948 to 1958. Founded in 1931 by Faye G. Bennison, the company took over the former Poxon China Company in Vernon, California.Production: Known for colorful California pottery and "Vernonware" dinnerware, the company competed with Bauer and Fiesta but was renowned for partnering with famous artists, such as Rockwell Kent and Royal Hickman. In 1940, Vernon Kilns signed a contract with Walt Disney Productions to create figures and art ware for films like Fantasia, Dumbo, and The Reluctant Dragon. Metlox Potteries acquired the molds and continued producing some patterns.
