Crafted around the 1960s or 1970s, it depicts a large Cocker Spaniel in a seated pose, standing near life-size on the floor. It is finished in a brilliant, high-gloss white glaze with detailed, hand-painted facial features, including a bold black nose and, most significantly, the signature exaggerated, upward-gazing "pity eyes" that are highly characteristic of Italian animal pottery from this era. These ceramic dogs were wildly popular decorative items and are now fiercely sought-after by collectors of Hollywood Regency and Maximalist decor, functioning as whimsical "greeters" in an entry or as playful sculpture within a sophisticated room.
