A rare and highly decorative antique Spanish ceramic tile, attributed to the renowned Mensaque Rodriguez workshop in the historic Triana district of Seville. Executed in the traditional Mudejar style, this handcrafted tile showcases the distinctive “arista” (raised-line) technique, characteristic of Andalusian pottery.
The design features an elaborate grotesque composition: a stylized central face emerging from a vase, flanked by winged figures, creating a dynamic and theatrical visual narrative rooted in historic Spanish ornamentation. The palette combines rich tones of blue, green, and brown set against a light ground, with vibrant glazing that enhances the depth and detail of the relief decoration.
The reverse is marked “Sevilla España,” further supporting its origin. Subtle wear to the edges and corners is consistent with age, adding to its authentic antique character.
