Edith and Brian Heath introduced their Rim collection of ceramic tableware in 1960. The collection was named for the pieces' hand-rubbed edges, which exposed the earthen color underneath their glaze.
I acquired this 21-piece collection over time in the mid 70s at the Heath factory/showroom in Sausalito overlooking San Francisco Bay, across from The City. The pieces were initially hand-thrown, but Brian slowly began to invent machines to help with the process.
The company was sold in 2003 and moved its operations to Potrero Hill in town. At that time, they stopped making black pieces, making mine EXCEEDINGLY rare.
Here's a list of the pieces I now offer:
Two 6.25" saucers each carrying a 4.625" × 2.5"-deep bowl, four 7.25" bread plates, four 9.25" plates, four 10.25" deep pasta bowls with 1.75"-wide rims, four 11.25" dinner plates, and one 7.375 x 3.625"-deep serving bowl. The serving bowl has long since been discontinued and, I repeat, none of these pieces is any longer available in black.
