A handsome pair of English Jacobean Revival high-back armchairs, late 19th to early 20th century, with richly toned wood frames, shaped arms, turned legs, stretcher bases, and hoof feet. What I like about these chairs is the balance: they have presence, but they are not stiff. They also do something very useful in a collected room—placed near a patterned sofa, a small table, or a stack of books, they help create that settled, lived-with feeling that is so hard to fake.
