English Country style—where a collected, layered mix of furniture and objects is shaped by use, comfort, and time.
A handsome pair of English Jacobean Revival high-back armchairs, late 19th to early 20th century, with richly toned wood frames, shaped arms, turned legs, stretcher bases, and hoof feet. The tall backs give this pair a strong vertical presence, while the warm upholstery palette keeps them approachable and easy to place.
The chairs are upholstered with patterned backs in muted dark sage, coral, tan, and soft earth tones, paired with quieter woven seats and wrapped arm rests. Brass nailhead trim adds definition without making the pair feel overly formal. The frames have a warm, aged surface with visible wear, giving them the kind of character that works especially well in layered English Country, traditional, and collected interiors. Use them flanking a fireplace, anchoring a library wall, or placed opposite a sofa where height and structure are needed. Their scale and presence make them especially useful as statement seating without overwhelming a room.
JUNE’S THOUGHTS
What I like about these chairs is the balance: they have presence, but they are not stiff. The high backs give you that wonderful vertical note a room often needs, while the fabric keeps them warm and livable. They also do something very useful in a collected room—placed near a patterned sofa, a small table, or a stack of books, they help create that settled, lived-with feeling that is so hard to fake.

Frames are sturdy and usable, with visible surface wear, scratches, rubs, finish variation, and age-related marks throughout the wood. Upholstery presents well overall, with expected light wear and minor variation consistent with use. Brass nailhead trim shows age-appropriate patina and some unevenness.
