Cherry Blossoms are important in Japanese culture. They are Sakura - Sakura (桜/さくら) is the Japanese word for cherry blossoms, representing both the flowers and the tree, symbolizing spring, renewal, and the fleeting beauty of life. They signify a "time of blooming" (saku = to bloom) and carry cultural weight as a symbol of hope, mortality, and the transience of life due to their short, intense blooming period.
This loftyfloral motif is often portrayed in the works of the Fukugawa Company, a famous name in Japan. In 1910 FUKAGAWA-SEIJI was appointed official purveyor to the Japanese Imperial Household. This practice continues today.
There are beautiful pure white porcelain vases with cherry blossoms, but this is the first one in my experience that included woven fences. The cherry tree dominates the design, with carefully hand painted flowers in red and branches in cobalt blue and some highlighted in gold. There is a group of white chrysanthemums, carefully outlined in red is placed near the bamboo fences depicted in blue and red. Gold is painted at the neck rim and at the foot rim. On the base is the mark of Fukagaw Seiji under the Mt Fuji symbol.
