The case is made of solid walnut with burl of elm and marquetry inlay details on the door. In two parts with a curved shaped body, paneled sides and a chapeau de gendarme crown. Original glass panes. The enamel clock face has Roman numerals and the name of clockmaker Cretin and his town, Cluny. Decorative embossed brass surround of a biblical scene from (John 4:6-15) depicting Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. Seven day Morbier movement with four bell chimes strikes on the hour, once on the quarter, twice on the half and three times on the third quarter. Professionally cleaned and in working order. The clock is original to the case and the wires of the pendulum have been replaced. Superb craftsmanship with pegged and mortise and tenon construction. Beautiful wood grain with waxed patina.
