At an extraordinary 64 inches in length, pieces of this scale were traditionally used within Naga village life for large communal purposes such as grain preparation, rice processing, serving food during feasts, or ceremonial gathering use; objects like this were created for entire families or community events rather than individual household use. The size alone makes this example exceptionally rare, as very few surviving Naga bowls were carved on such a monumental scale due to the labor and old-growth timber required to produce them. The elongated sculptural form, deep hand-carved interior, smoky dark patina, and heavily worn surface all reflect generations of authentic use, giving the piece remarkable presence and historical character. Today this piece works beautifully as an oversized centerpiece on a long dining tables, dramatic console or coffee table display. It can also be used as a hearth accent, or layered organic vessel for collected objects, dried botanicals, or textiles. See less
