Red squirrels can be identified by their fluffy, tufted ears, as seen in this piece, and are the species of squirrel native to France. Here, he is depicted eating an acorn, surrounded by four other acorns in a beautiful composition of swirling leaves and the squirrel’s tail. The detail is so refined that you can see the texture of the leaves, the fur of the squirrel, and a well-delineated eye. We love that the medallion’s shape is not completely round, but instead follows the shape of the leaves. The gold has a beautiful matte surface and the back of the pendant is a brushed gold.

The pendant measures 1 1/4” x 1 3/8”, plus a 5 x 7 mm bail. It has a hefty weight of 14.35 grams. It is marked with a French hallmark in a diamond, and the French hallmark for 18k gold. See less
