Part of June Hastings’ Collected & Considered — a refined mix of furniture and objects chosen for form, material, and presence.
An eye-catching Italian porcelain rabbit supporting a sculptural lettuce-leaf tabletop, executed in high-gloss glazed porcelain. The piece reads equally as functional furniture and decorative sculpture. Produced in Italy during the 1970s, it reflects the period’s interest in trompe-l’œil naturalism and playful reinterpretations of traditional motifs. The rabbit is finely detailed, with expressive eyes and softly modeled fur, while the lettuce top is richly textured and organically formed.
Well suited as an occasional table, a plant stand, or sculptural display surface, it works beautifully in an entry, garden room, or layered interior where decorative arts take precedence over strict formality.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
This is one of those pieces that immediately makes me stop—but what holds me is the quality. The glaze is beautifully handled, and the scale feels intentional rather than novelty-driven.
I especially like it used on a console or credenza, where it reads first as sculpture. The forward-leaning form and broad lettuce top give it visual weight without height—striking alongside books, ceramics, or a lamp.
