A late 19th-century English Sutherland table in richly figured mahogany, balancing sculptural form with practical versatility. A Victorian form of drop-leaf table with swing-out supports and a narrow central profile—opens on pivoting arms to a generous oval surface with a softly scalloped edge. The base, with turned legs and shaped supports, offers more visual weight and structure than typically seen in this form.
Designed for English interiors, Sutherland tables were used for tea service, writing, and games and functions equally well today as a serving table, writing surface, or occasional piece.
