Elegant verre eglomisé-style reverse painted oval glass tray by Diana Gaikazova. The glass features a refined center design that mimics the look-and-feel of Nero Portoro marble, while the perimeter imitates the look of Kashmir gold granite. Whimsically added faux handles on either side, officially makes it look like a tray, lovely, isn’t it? Eglomisé or reverse painted glass has an unexpected depth to it and it almost seems to glow when illuminated. Each piece is done back to front: details painted first, then larger color areas and finally a background color. It is a skill that requires great care and precision, as the visual surface is painted first then layered over, there is absolutely no room for mistakes. This beauty measures 18” x 12¾” x 1”, weight 2 lbs. Mediums used are glass, gold leaf and paint, and of course, talent for proper execution. In excellent condition with little, if any, age-appropriate wear. Artist’s signature is on the underside.

Diana was born in Italy, raised in Moscow and returned to Italy to study art and learn the century old tradition of reverse glass painting. She brought her talents and creativity to Boston a decade ago. She quickly became known for her fine dinnerware collections which are now in the White House, the Vatican and carried in the finest stores on Rodeo Drive, Harrods of London and Saks 5th Avenue.
