A rare and highly collectible early modernist “Novo” chair designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen in 1935. Created during Jacobsen’s pioneering Funkis period, this model reflects the architect’s early exploration of functionalism, honest materials, and refined proportions that would later define his iconic Scandinavian modern designs. Crafted in solid beech with a warm, richly toned patina, the chair features a hand-woven seagrass seat that beautifully complements the clean ladder-back structure. The design is understated yet architecturally precise, demonstrating Jacobsen’s mastery of balance, ergonomics, and material integrity even in his earliest works. Importantly, the chair remains in original condition, preserving its authentic surface, finish, and woven seat — a rare survival for a piece of this age. The natural wear is consistent with time and use, contributing to its character and historical value. Early Jacobsen pieces from this pre-war period are increasingly difficult to source, making this example a true collector’s item suitable for serious Scandinavian design collections, museums, or refined interiors seeking an important work of early Danish modernism. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
