A unique Japanese Kyo-yaki pottery set of five (5) tea plates for serving traditional sweets (Wagashi) during the tea ceremony. The set also includes an original Yamazakura box (cherry tree). Total of 6 authentic pieces!!
This set will last you a lifetime and, it will bring instant warmth, color and fine adornment to your home. Symbolic patterns and designs always make Japanese dishes look different.
Set is hand-decorated in the Ninsei-Kyoyaki style, with 5 different symbols of Japanese karako-boy and Hiragana calligraphy.
Measurements: each plate measures 5 inches x 5 inches (12 1/2 cm x 12 1/2 cm). Box measures: 6 inches L x 6 inches W x 4 1/2 inches H (15 cm x 15 cm x 11.5 cm).
Condition: The set is in excellent vintage condition. No chips, repairs, cracks, not crazed. Very beautiful.
Important note: The set’s provenance is Japan where dinnerware, tea or coffee sets almost always come in 5 which is a lucky number in Japan, unlike 4 which brings bad luck. The set is sold in its original wooden box.
