We have an absolutely stunning American Empire chest of drawers for sale. This piece dates back to the mid-19th century, most likely around 1835–1855. This genuine piece of American history is a great example of early American Empire furniture, known for its bold architectural presence, rich wood veneers, and solid craftsmanship.

This chest features a five drawer, two over three configuration, with two smaller drawers over three full width drawers, offering generous and functional storage. The drawer fronts are finished with rich mahogany veneer, displaying swirling grain patterns that are characteristic of Empire furniture from this period. The chest is fitted with stunning pressed glass drawer knobs, which are period appropriate and commonly seen on American furniture from the mid to late 19th century.


This Empire chest works beautifully as a bedroom dresser, entryway or hallway chest, living room storage piece, or as a statement antique in a historic or transitional interior. Its refined design pairs well with Federal, traditional, eclectic, and modern spaces seeking warmth and authenticity.

Please keep in mind that this is piece is somewhere close to 180 years old. It’s not going to look fresh off the line. That being said, I’d like to point out some imperfections for the purpose of complete transparency. There is scratching throughout. The insides of the drawers are far from pristine. The top has imperfections. There are imperfections on the sides and the legs. There are imperfections on the body of the piece. The patterning on the sides at the top have been knocked off and re-stained to match the piece. In the front, the corner blocks are missing, but it has been re-stained to match the rest of the piece. Part of the top is slightly raised as seen in photos. Everything is structurally sound. Things happen over the span of 180 years, but this is history, and the character adds to the story. Just picture this in someone’s home before the Civil War!
