Crafted from wood, the surface is a deep, mottled espresso and walnut brown, with a rustic, weathered character and visible grain that gives the piece a rich, time-worn depth. Each drawer front is bordered with a fine band of mother-of-pearl style inlay, with tiny triangles and diamonds marching around the perimeter and meeting in a central lozenge medallion. Matching diamond motifs run down the case sides and across the base, and a narrow inlaid strip separates each drawer. At the center of every drawer, a square, cream-colored knob is printed with a black swallowtail butterfly, with a delicate burst of toothed ornament radiating behind it.
