A striking 19th century Swedish Mora clock, retaining both of its original convex glasses and signed on the dial with “Mora” and the initials “NLS.” This classic Gustavian timepiece features the iconic curvaceous silhouette that defines true Mora craftsmanship, with its rounded crown, elegant waist, and pronounced lower belly terminating in a subtle flared base.
The clock retains its original domed upper crystal over the dial as well as the matching convex glass at the pendulum aperture — a detail that collectors especially appreciate, as these are so often replaced or lost over time. The hand-painted wooden dial displays bold Arabic numerals and delicate pierced hands, with a softly aged patina that speaks to its history.
The case shows traces of its earlier painted surface beneath a later warm brown finish, giving it a layered, authentic character rather than an overly restored look. The proportions are particularly pleasing — not too wide, not too narrow — with a well-defined shoulder and graceful midsection that sits beautifully in both traditional and modern interiors.
A wonderful example of Swedish Gustavian provincial design from the 19th century, offering sculptural presence and timeless European charm.
This clock includes the key, weights, and pendulum, offering a complete and authentic experience. While currently intended primarily for decorative purposes, a skilled clockmaker can ensure proper functioning, allowing you to fully enjoy both its movement and its timeless historical charm in your home. Chimes and pendulum swings when weight is applied. Does not keep accurate time.
