Constructed in solid elm with striking cathedral grain throughout, the desk features through-post legs, shaped apron brackets, and a mitered frame top with subtly raised edges. When the chair is tucked in, two faux drawers with bronze-finished ring pulls give the piece the appearance of a small chest. Once the chair is pulled forward, the desk reveals a single functional drawer beneath the writing surface.
The accompanying chair is thoughtfully proportioned to tuck fully within the footprint of the desk, transforming the piece into a sculptural cabinet when closed. This dual-function design reflects the Ming-inspired emphasis on clarity of line, balance, and purposeful restraint.

What drew me in immediately was the way the chair disappears. When tucked in, the piece reads almost like a small chest or table. Pull the chair forward, and it becomes an intimate writing station. It’s clever without feeling gimmicky.
