This gorgeous, unmarked sugar and creamer set in the “Willow Tree” pattern is crafted from fine English hard paste porcelain, likely pre-1820 and possibly by Spode or New Hall.
The design features the early overprint “Black Bat” method, with delicate stippled detailing in the figures, background, and overall scene. Bat Print porcelain used a labor-intensive stippling process that fell out of favor around 1820. This set has charming maker’s quirks, like a slight misalignment of the design at the top. The Willow Tree pattern showcases Chinese pagodas, willow trees, and birds. While there’s noticeable crazing and foxing, the condition is remarkable for its age. The creamer’s handle is solid, and the sugar bowl shows no signs of repair.
