A rare late 19th century Austrian bentwood chaise longue, also commonly referred to today as a daybed due to its extended reclining form. This is Model No. 2 by Thonet, featuring the characteristic flowing scroll base, adjustable reclining back, and original woven cane seat and back panels.
The piece is stamped “Thonet”, consistent with documented late 19th-century production. Its construction, materials, and adjustable mechanism correspond to known examples of Thonet Model No. 2 produced in Austria during this period.
The bentwood beech frame displays a beautifully developed, natural patina acquired over time. The original cane panels remain in good condition, and the adjustable back functions as intended.
Both sculptural and functional, this chaise longue / daybed is a striking example of early Art Nouveau bentwood design and an important decorative statement piece.
