This lovely cachepot was made sometime in the late mid-century in Hong Kong. Did you know that the Chinese use the circle to symbolize heaven and a square to symbolize earth? The dual square inside of a circle motif on the front and back of this beauty represents heaven and earth being united. Made from brass with what I believe to be a copper underlayment (some wear in a few areas has exposed a copper-like metal color), it’s a sizable piece that I have used as a cachepot but could easily be adapted for use as a stylish ice bucket. It measures 9½” x 12¼” H/W (width measurement taken from handle-to-handle); outside lip width/diameter 9¾”; interior height 8¾” x 9 3/16" width/diameter; weight 3.4 lbs. In excellent condition with use wear that is appropriate for a late mid-century piece. I have kept it polished, as you see in the photos but it will tarnish again in due time. Some oxidation has taken place but nothing that detracts from its beauty or utility. No maker but label of origin (Hong Kong) is still attached underneath.
