This stunning art deco style arm chair was designed by Eliel Saarinen in 1929-1930 for his home in Cranbrook, MI. This authorized reproduction was manufactured by Charles Phipps & Sons for Arkitektura circa 1990s.
The arm chair is made of hardwood with a gently flared cube shape encased on three sides by panels veneered in East Indian rosewood, African mahogany, African teak, and maple raised on stepped base with gently flaring legs. Upholstered in rose mohair velvet with black tack head upholstered trim. Arkitektura brass plaque below seat.
The 1990s arm chair is in good vintage condition. The chair is surprisingly heavy and extremely sturdy, being made of durable hard woods. The mohair velvet is very clean with some wear on the arms. The veneer is mostly intact, but one front leg shows significant veneer loss. Scattered wear and scratches on the veneer. Please see photos for more details about the condition of the chair.
The arm chair measures 31.25” tall, 25” wide, and 22” deep with a 17.25” seat height and 31” arm height. The seat depth is 18.5 inches, and the seat width is 19 inches. It’s a petite chair with a lot of presence.
