This vintage Nippon-style bowl reflects a late-20th-century reinterpretation of early Japanese export enamelware. Measuring approximately 11 inches, the piece features brightly enameled birds and peonies set against a black-ground interior, bordered by a repeating floral and scalloped motif.
The decorative technique combines transfer-applied outlines with hand-filled enamel colors and raised detailing intended to evoke traditional moriage work. Although marked “Nippon,” the mark corresponds to later production inspired by Meiji and Taishō export ceramics rather than true 1891–1921 Nippon manufacture. The large scale and vivid palette make this bowl suitable as a display centerpiece or collection accent.
