This hand-painted faience plate reflects the provincial ceramic traditions of nineteenth-century France. Formed in a scalloped circular profile, the piece was produced in tin-glazed earthenware typical of regional workshops in Quimper, Nevers, or southwest France.
The surface features a naïve floral bouquet rendered in cobalt, ochre, and green, executed with freehand brushwork associated with rural artisan production. A multi-color looped border encircles the rim, emphasizing the plate’s shaped contour and historic firing techniques.
The glaze displays characteristics of early French faience, including the softly pooled white ground and visible craquelure from age and original kiln conditions.
