This nineteenth-century faience plate represents the vernacular ceramic traditions of rural France. Formed in a scalloped circular profile, it is produced in tin-glazed earthenware with the softly pooled white surface characteristic of early provincial workshops.
The central motif features a stylized bouquet with ribbon and basket, executed in freehand brushwork using cobalt, ochre, green, and orange pigments associated with rustic French palettes.
A wide border encircles the rim in alternating yellow and green bands with a linked blue chain pattern, a decoration typical of regional faience during the period. The plate illustrates the naïve painterly aesthetic and hand-thrown forms found in nineteenth-century provincial production.
