A generously scaled Japanese porcelain bowl, richly decorated in the Kutani palette with dense cherry blossom branches set against a vivid green ground. The exterior and interior are covered in repeating sakura (cherry) blossoms rendered in iron red, soft white, and gilt accents, creating a lively lattice effect around the form.
At the center, a circular medallion features a finely painted butterfly amid scrolling foliage and seasonal flowers—an auspicious motif associated with transformation and longevity. The underside shows a red seal mark consistent with Japanese export wares of the late 19th to early 20th century. The bowl’s substantial size and depth give it strong visual presence, making it well suited for use as a centerpiece, fruit bowl, or decorative accent on a console or dining table.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
This is the kind of bowl that instantly anchors a surface. I love the density of the decoration—there’s nothing timid here—and the scale makes it especially versatile. It works beautifully on a dining table filled with fruit, but it’s just as strong empty on a console or sideboard where the pattern can really be appreciated. Pieces like this were meant to be lived with, not tucked away.

There is a fine, stable hairline approximately 1.6 inches long, visible on close inspection and shown in photos. The bowl remains structurally sound. Light surface wear and minor gilt softening are consistent with age and use. Small firing variations and glaze irregularities are present, as expected with handmade Japanese porcelain of this period. No restorations noted. less
