Striking Vernon Kilns' classic California pottery dinnerware in the Vernonware Homespun / Plaid / Organdie pattern. An iconic, MCM design-forward addition to any tabletop,
Vernon Kilns was originally founded as Poxon China in 1912, before being acquired and renamed in 1931. Under new leadership, it became one of the “Big Five” California potteries. This pitcher isn’t just a decorative accent — it is a tangible piece of American pottery history. It connects to the legacy of California’s mid-century ceramic boom, embodying the shift from mass-produced dishware to expressive, artful homeware that defined American kitchens from the 1940s–1950s.
So beloved is this pattern, set designers utilize it to bring a little bit of "California sunshine" to their cinematic productions. In "Titanic", Homespun's sister pattern in warm brown tones (Organdie) is the dinnerware of choice used by Rose to serve tea to her elderly grandmother, in "Northern Exposure", Homespun is the china set lovingly set on Maggie's table.
