Exceptional craftsmanship and detail are to be found in this fabulous Henredon Fine Furniture bedside or chairside commode. It possesses an elegant Chinoiserie look-and-feel that will complement most any design sensibility and style.
Crafted from mahogany wood solids and veneers in a rich and shifting stain finish of burnt umber with coffee hued undertones. The rich wild flame mahogany grain door fronts are nicely accented by the gleaming solid brass hardware. Behind those doors you’ll find a roomy cabinet for storage. The single upper English dovetailed drawer’s casings and rail are solid wood with the drawer gliding in and out with ease. The commode rests on four ribbed turned block feet. This beauty weighs approximately 100 lbs. and measures as follows:
Overall” 28” x 28” x 22½” W/D/H
Drawer: 24” x 15” x 2½” W/D/H
Lower interior cabinet: 26” x 27” x 12½” W/D/H
Made in the United States sometime in the mid 1960s to early 1970s. Makers mark appears on the interior side casing of the drawer; style number marked on the underside. In excellent condition overall with age-appropriate wear that includes slight fading to the polished lacquered finish on the top. The described wear is difficult to see unless hovering over the top in a certain light. I have attempted to capture this wear in all the photos where the top is prominently featured. Photos were taken in the round to show all sides and the varying shades and nuances of the finish and wood grain. The "bumps and bruises" of life do not detract from the beauty or utility of this fabulous commode.
The beauty of a fine piece of furniture is found in each component. It’s essentially stacking levels and layers of the best materials and using impeccable furniture making standards in order to build what constitutes a fine piece of furniture, which is Henredon Fine Furniture’s signature.
