The timeless Regency look-and-feel of this pair of curule-shaped benches, with beautifully carved batwing, shell and acanthus leaf motifs and accents, provides a classically elegant statement. The handcrafted hardwood curule bench frame starts with curved legs forming a wide X ending in scrolled feet. A central cross stretcher enhances the structural stability of the base, ensuring it’s sturdy as well as stylish! The tufted upholstered bench seats are comfortable and nicely cushioned with excellent resiliency. The curule bench frame features a painted creamy pale linen hue with speckled pin dots of tan; feathered brushstrokes adorn the carved acanthus leaf, shell and batwing motifs. The upholstered tufted bench seats are covered in an upholstery weight smooth sateen textile which features whimsical floral, foliate and paisley-shape motifs in a background color of hunter green splashed with brick red, gold hints of olive.

Each bench measures 24” x 18” x 20” W/D/H (20” height includes the tufted upholstered bench seat); seat -to-floor height 20” (taken from top of tufted upholstered bench seat to floor); each attached tufted upholstered bench seat measures 24” x 18” W/D; seat cushion height 5½”. Weight for the pair is approximately 30 to 35 lbs.

In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear, the pair was thoughtfully well made and remain structurally sound. The tufted upholstered bench seats are comfortable and nicely cushioned with excellent resiliency. Textile is in beautiful condition, clean with minimal overall fading (see photos 3, 6 & 9). We have an inkling these may be made in the United States but cannot confirm definitively. Maker is unknown. There are a series of handwritten numbers on the underside of one bench (see photo 11) which denote style number by the maker.
