Presenting a spectacular early 19th-century French three-piece bronze doré clock set signed by Thomire of Paris, a breathtaking ensemble that epitomizes the luxury, craftsmanship, and artistic grandeur of the French Empire and Louis XVI revival periods. This museum-quality garniture features a central mantel clock flanked by two monumental multi-arm candelabra, each cast in richly detailed gilt bronze (bronze doré) with exceptional sculptural refinement.
The central clock is an extraordinary composition of swirling acanthus leaves, rocaille ornamentation, and exuberant floral arrangements, surmounted by a classical urn overflowing with blossoms. Two beautifully modeled cherubs—symbolizing playful innocence and artistic inspiration—stand on either side, striking dynamic poses as they interact with the clock. The porcelain dial is adorned with hand-painted Roman numerals and intricate gilt accents. Each accompanying candelabrum features an ornate baluster urn with scrolling handles, rising to an elaborate bouquet of branching candle arms richly decorated with leaves and blossoms.
The overall form, finish, and decorative vocabulary are characteristic of the work of Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751–1843), the most celebrated bronzier of the Napoleonic era. Thomire trained under Houdon and Gouthière before establishing his own atelier, quickly gaining fame for producing the finest gilt bronze mounts for royal furniture, Sèvres porcelain, and imperial decorative pieces. Under Napoleon, Thomire became the official bronzier of the Empire, supplying the Tuileries Palace, Malmaison, and the royal courts of Europe. His mastery of chasing, casting, and doré finishing set the standard for French gilt bronze artistry.
This magnificent three-piece clock set is not only a functional timepiece but a sculptural masterpiece—an embodiment of French decorative history.
Condition: Light wear and expected patina. Overall excellent presentation for its age.
A world-class Thomire signed bronze doré garniture suitable for the most refined interiors or serious collectors.
