Each plate is signed by the artist. Lovely and unusual, very hard to find.

Marked on the verso, Sceaux 1777. Sceaux was a faiënce and porcelain works, founded near Paris. The factory was in production from 1748-1794. Molds and patterns were often sold when factories disbanded.

The plates are skillfully painted with centers showing six different figural romantic courtship scenes rendered underglaze in grisaille and cirage, a style that uses varying shades of gray and yellow. The rims show a floral garland cold-painted in bright yellow and black. The mold has a basketweave rim and the center shows pleating.
