Chinese early 20th-century water gong bowl for temple or personal practice. Seated on a small pillow the rounded bottom is centered and water is sometimes added to adjust the sound quality as the sides of the rim are rubbed or struck by a small mallet.
Early 20th-century manufacture and hand-made decorations of Chinese fretwork with a band of Foo dogs in the landscape. The bottom has a cartouch of double dragons around the six characters.
The size is 9.5" in diameter and 4.5" tall.
The condition is very good. Polished exterior and water patina inside. Very thick walls. Good weight and strength.
