Louis Prang & Company of Boston set the gold standard for American color printing in the 19th century—and collectors still chase his work for good reason. Prang perfected multi-stone chromolithography so refined that the Met, Smithsonian, and Boston Museum of Fine Arts all hold examples. He’s celebrated as “the father of the American color print.”
These thirteen plates from Wild Flowers of America—drawn and colored from nature by artist Helen Sharp—show exactly why Prang’s name endures: luminous tone, crisp botanical accuracy, and the soft transparency that rivals hand-colored engraving. Each bears the L. Prang & Co., Boston imprint and plate designation (Volume I: 3, 8, 9, 12, 17, 20, 22, 29, 32, 33, 34, 39, 41).
Professionally framed in Larson-Juhl’s raw-oak Kyoto faux bamboo-relief moulding with archival mats and UV-protective non-glare glazing, form a unified, ready-to-install gallery wall. Colors remain vivid, paper clean, and presentation museum-level.
Cohesive framed suites of authentic Prang botanicals are rare; this is decorator-ready, investment-worthy art.
